Traction – relief from injury is in sight |

Effective treatment for lower back pain and more
Traction can be highly effective in straightening broken bones or relieving pressure on the spine and skeletal system. It is set up on your lumbar spine by passing a strap across your chest and placing a second strap around your pelvis. The strap around your chest is fixed by your Medrehab therapist. A weight is then applied to the strap around your pelvis to pull your spine to its full length. This relieves the pressure on the intervertebral discs of your lumbar spine. During traction (also sometimes known as spinal decompression therapy), a negative pressure is created within the disc. Because of that negative pressure, disc material that has protruded or herniated can be readjusted back, allowing healing to occur. Pressure is released, allowing the inflammation to subside.

Many MedRehab clinics feature a traction table to treat spinal issues.
Traction may be given continuously for up to 10 minutes at a time or intermittently for up to 15 minutes.

What is Traction?
Traction is a treatment sometimes given by physiotherapists to their patients. The purpose of traction is to apply a force that draws two adjacent bones apart from each other in order to increase their shared joint space. Traction also stretches the soft tissue that surrounds the joint. Traction may be given manually, by means of a device or via positioning.
