Shawnda Marie Rosen
Registered Massage Therapist - Woodbridge

With MedRehab Group since 2008

Education: Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy

My specialties:

  • Pregnancy – pre and post-natal

“Massage reinforces the bond between baby and mother. It calms mummy down so baby can be more relaxed. Usually I feel a lot of kicking, twirls and flips – meaning they’re happy!”

“During pregnancy, sometimes women even have chest pains because there is so much pressure. I treat a lot of back and hip pain as well that can manifest as sciatica – and/or piriformis syndrome.”

Areas of interest:

  • Swedish massage and deep tissue

“I go into the muscle with a medium pressure until I meet the problem areas. I allow the muscle to push me back a little bit so I can gauge the pressure needed. I personally use a lot of fore-arm, elbows and palms as well – as long as the patient is comfortable with that.”

What sets me apart:

“My love for it, my passion – and above all my patience. Generally, it’s not just the muscles that are aching but underlying emotion that is bringing it on. I like to ask questions and show empathy. Why is there a jabbing pain? Why can’t they sleep at night? It helps to gain trust by hearing them out and finding that connection… so I can apply the perfect treatment to help them inside and out.”

Shawnda's success story:

“I recently had a pregnant woman come in during her 6th month, who was in pain, having trouble sleeping and even walking. I simply went in and released her piriformis. Suddenly she just lit up – the relief was so new to her.”

Three things people may not know about our massage therapy services:

1. “We can actually feel the muscle and where the pain is – We can feel your pain as we’re applying massage techniques, which is how we are able to create relief.”

2.“Mind relaxation benefits – Massage can actually make you feel lighter -- less heavy -- because it releases endorphins and has a reflex effect on the nervous system.”

3.“Massage is an important first step before surgery or medication to determine if it is actually disease or illness – or just a muscle issue, which nine out of ten times it is! People come in feeling doomed. In fact, I had a gentleman come in for massage who had two carpal tunnel surgeries that he did not need – at age 29. He now cannot open and close his hands. If you come into massage first, you can sometimes get a highly effective treatment that will get you back to living life – without drastic measures like surgery.”
